Perplexity combines AI search with conversational answers, inline citations and current web sources. It supports Search, Pro Search, Research, file and media uploads, Projects, image and video generation, document and presentation creation, cloud connectors, the Comet AI browser and Perplexity Computer for multi-step tasks. Free is useful for everyday questions. Pro increases search, model, upload and creation access; Max targets power users; Enterprise adds administration, internal knowledge search, stronger privacy and organization connectors. Its strongest advantage is fast, source-backed research. Its main limitations are source-quality variation, model mistakes, dynamic limits and consumer AI-data retention being enabled by default unless the user opts out. The free plan is useful for normal cited search, while Pro expands premium models, Research, file uploads and advanced creation. Max is aimed at heavy consumer use and early access. Enterprise Pro and Max add internal knowledge, connectors, seat administration, SSO and strict no-training protections. Sonar API and Computer credits are separate usage systems, so subscription price alone does not describe the complete economic cost.
